Richard P. Cormier, 71, of New Bedford died November 5, 2020 unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital.
He was the husband of Lynn A. (Tetreault) Cormier.
Born in Waterville, ME, son of the late Romeo J. and Pearl (Burgess) Cormier, he lived in New Bedford most of his life.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and was the recipient of the Vietnamese Service Medal with 3 stars, Vietnamese Campaign Medal with Device, Combat Action Ribbon, RVN Cross of Gallantry with Palm and the Meritorious Unit Citation.
He was formerly employed as a postal clerk with the United States Postal Service until his retirement. He was previously employed as a lumper on the New Bedford Waterfront.
Survivors include his wife; 2 sons, Richard Cormier, Jr. and his wife Josette and Joshua Cormier and his wife Casey, all of New Bedford; a daughter, Sherry Cormier of Iceland; 2 brothers, Robert Cormier and Ronald Cormier, both of Maine; 3 sisters, Darlene Anderson of New Bedford, Rhonda Vaudry and her husband Robert of Somerset and Debra Castonguay and her husband Phil of Maine; 6 grandchildren, Anita, Anastacia, Aron, Joshua Jr., Elicia and Lahrissa; 2 great-grandchildren, Mikael and Isabella; his best friends, Gary Roderiques and Brad Andrews; and several nieces and nephews.
His visiting hours will be held on Monday, November 9th from 4-7 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
