Anthony J. Estrella, 80, of New Bedford died Monday July 15, 2002 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of Janice R. (Clark) Estrella, and son of the late Bento and Anna (Alves) Estrella.
A lifelong resident of New Bedford, he was a graduate of New Bedford Vocational High School.
He was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church.
Mr. Estrella was formerly employed as a foreman at Morse Cutting Tools until his retirement.
In his earlier days, he was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid golfer and bowler. He spent many happy hours with his grandson Ross, who helped take care of him.
Survivors include his wife; 2 sons, Thomas R. Estrella and Douglas C. Estrella, both of New Bedford; 4 daughters, Kimberly M. Sylvia and Jill R. Crooks, both of New Bedford, and Rita Azevedo and Deborah A. Lopes, both of Gustine, CA; a brother, Carlos Estrella of Santa Clara, CA; a sister, Maria Agostino of Los Banos, CA; 14 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
His Funeral Service will be held on Friday July 19, 2002 at 11 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park Street, New Bedford. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Thursday July 18, 2002 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
