Sheron Elizabeth Wood, 64, of Irwinville, Georgia, died Thursday, November 5, 2020, at her residence.
Graveside services will be held 2 PM, Sunday, November 8, 2020 at Irwinville Cemetery, in Irwinville, Georgia, with the Rev. Jeremy Cox officiating.
Sheron was born October 26, 1956, in Tifton, Georgia to Gwendolyn Cravey “Lyn” Stephens and the late Harold Elliott “Ears” Hester. She grew up in Lakeland, Florida and moved back to Worth County, Georgia at the age of 16. At a very young age she learned and began driving semi-trucks. She worked for Ross of Georgia for many years as a truck driver. After several years she had to leave to have a more family friendly job at the Irwin County Road Department. Sheron operated motor graders in the Irwin County area. This was a passion God gave her. She also worked for the Mystic Water Works where many people knew her as “The Water Lady”. Sheron later began to work at the Irwin County Court House because her body no longer let her operate heavy equipment. Sheron had many ailments but she never let that stop her from working. She had a bad back from many years of driving trucks and operating equipment.
At age 37 she had her daughter, Chasity, whom she loved dearly and for whom she sacrificed much. If you knew Sheron she was a very kind and humble person. She had a strong faith in God though she faced many hardships and dull times. She always counted her blessings. Sheron never met a stranger and she loved kids. She was “Aunt Sheron” to many of the kids in Irwinville, Georgia, where she called home. Sheron attended Irwinville Baptist Church. She also always saw the good in people. Being a single mother, she always worked hard to provide for her daughter. She loved her many years of driving trucks, operating heavy equipment, her music and any outdoor activities. In her youngers years she enjoyed hunting but continued to enjoy gardening and fishing. Her most current passion was her grandbabies Rayleigh Elizabeth and Johnathan. Sheron loved to spend time with them, spoil them and brag about them. She always prayed the Lord give her strength until her daughter was 20 and He blessed her with six more years.
She is survived by her daughter, Chasity Fountain & Nathan of Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Rayleigh Fountain and Johnathan Fountain; her mother, Lyn Stephens & Patrick of Monroe. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Wood of Worth County and their son, Daniel Wood. She was also preceded in death by a dear friend, Ted Doane and many beloved pets.
She and her daughter had a saying, “I love you all the way to heaven” where she is rejoicing with her Lord and Savior.
