Lucien Henry Kaeterle, 93, of New Bedford passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday November 4, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Mabel B. (Perry) Kaeterle; they had been married for 71 wonderful years.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Sidonie (Boone) Kaeterle, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Mr. Kaeterle was employed as a corrections officer at MCI Walpole and later served as a Lieutenant at MCI Bridgewater until his retirement.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Firedrake in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.
Lou was a devoted Catholic, hard worker, family man, and role model to everyone who knew him. His presence brought great joy to everyone. An avid fan of all Boston sports teams, especially the Boston Red Sox (he never missed a game!), he enjoyed his trips to Fenway Park and McCoy Stadium. Throughout the years, he coached many of his children’s sports teams. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Father Michael Racine and Community Nurse Home Care for their care and compassion, and to the many family and friends for their prayers and well wishes.
He is survived by his wife, Mabel; his five children, Lucien Jr., Michael and his wife Kathleen, Diane Walecka, Mark and his wife Teresa, and Russell and his wife Lisa; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday Nov. 9th at 10 AM at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.
