Alton Lee Sneed, 80, of Daleville, died November 2, 2020 at his residence, peacefully with his family surrounding him.
He was born, September 16, 1940, in Columbia, Kentucky, the son of Johnny and Mamie (Jones) Sneed. He was a conductor for the railroad 28 years before retiring.
He was a member of Daleville Masonic Lodge #730 since 1989; former President of Daleville Town Council; Past commander of Post 446 of the Daleville American Legion; board member of Daleville Grand Prix; founder and president of Daleville John Dillinger Car Show for 35 years; supported many Daleville organizations. He was an avid poker player and an Anderson Speedway race car driver. Alton loved camping, boating, bonfires and racing. Alton was a caring family man who loved his wife, children and grandchildren. Alton was always there for his extended family as a role model and loving ally.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sharon (Mason) Sneed whom he married July 6, 1964 in Anderson; daughter, Tammy Staimpel and son, Allen Sneed all of Daleville; two sisters, Betty (John) Benedict of Lebanon, Tennessee; Doris (Clayton) Smith of Edinburg; two sisters-in-law Toni Sneed of Edinburg and Benita Sneed of Scottsburg; three grandchildren, Joshua (Heather) Wright; Michael Staimpel and Baylee Mills; three great-grandchildren, Bentley, Ashlyn and Madison; many nieces and nephews that were loved by Alton very much and a special family member, Amy Pope.
Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, November 6, 2020 at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with Chaplain Bill Rogers from Heart to Heart Hospice, Teresa Vines and Angie Beaty officiating.
Burial will be at Saunders Cemetery in Daleville.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 5, 2020 at the funeral home.
