Yvonne K. Coleman, 72, of Watertown, MA, died peacefully on November 2, 2020 surrounded by her husband and children.
Yvonne was a native Californian, “an original Valley Girl,” born in Van Nuys on July 3, 1948 to the late Mary and Robert Coleman. She is survived by her high school sweetheart and husband of 52 years Lyn W. Hardy, her children and their spouses Karen and Thomas Donaghey, Alison Coleman-Hardy and Brian Flan, and Zachary Hardy and Carly Johanson, her beloved grandchildren Brodie, Caleb, Elinor, Piper, and Nathan, and her two brothers Dwight and Keith Coleman.
Yvonne went back to school and got her Masters degree in Library and Information Science at UC Berkeley in 1982, and found her calling. She loved connecting children with books and inspired many young readers over a 37 year career as Children’s Librarian at multiple libraries, including the Winchester Public Library and the Fox Branch library in Arlington.
Yvonne was fortunate to live near all of her five grandchildren. Spending time with them — reading with them, attending their performances, and sharing her love of nature with them — was Yvonne’s greatest joy.
A private family memorial will be planned next year. Donations in her memory may be made to the American Civil Liberties Union, an organization that she proudly supported.
