Russell W. Johnson, 94, of Briarwood Retirement Community, formerly of 49 Ideal Road, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 4, in his home. He was the son of N. Albert and Lottie (Johnson) Johnson, both born in Sweden. He was predeceased by two brothers: Albert and Harry. He leaves his wife of 68 years, Charlotte S. (Hoyt) Johnson; a daughter, Pauline and her husband Melvin Stephens of Concord; a son Leslie and his wife Gail of Millbury; a son Donald and his wife Joyce of Acton; a son Andy and his wife Debra of Simsbury, Connecticut; and a son Alan and his wife Dorothy of Titusville, NJ. He also leaves 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
He retired in 1985 as President of Standard Lock Washer and Manufacturing Company (now Stanlock) which he founded with his brothers 45 years before, after attending North High School and Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for over 50 years, was a longtime Director of the Sunderland Road Community House, was past president and Newsletter Editor of the Andrew M. Johnson Family Association and was given an Honary Ket to the City of Worcester lby the then mayor, Joseph Casdin for service to the city. He enjoyed traveling with family to Cape Cod and other locations, playing the piano, landscaping his yard and had been an avid Red Sox fan his entire life, from Babe Ruth to David Ortiz.
Funeral services will be held on Mon., March 13, 10 AM at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St. Burial will be in All Faiths Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Sunday, March 12 from 3-5 pm at the funeral home.
