Nettie Mae Scarborough Pope, 85, of Sylvester passed away at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton on October 26, 2020 after a short illness. A graveside funeral service will be held for Mrs. Pope at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 30, 2020, at Oak Ridge Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest. The Rev. Bradley Floyd will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 30, 2020, at Oak Ridge Cemetery from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service.
She was born November 6, 1934 in Sumner to the late Elton and Elmer Harris Scarborough. She is also preceded in death by her spouse, RV Pope; grandson, James Willis “Will” Cox, Jr; brothers, Dan Scarborough and Jack Scarborough; and sister Edith Scarborough Fowler. She retired from JP Stevens and Forstman in Tifton. Ms. Pope was a member of Gordy New Bethel Baptist Church in Sylvester. She loved her family and her granddogs. She also loved to read. She has long awaited this day of meeting her loved ones who have gone on before her. We will all miss her dearly. Until we meet again.
Survivors include her daughters, Martha (Roger) Rutherford and Beth Young; grandchildren, Shaun (Karen) Rutherford, Alicia Cox, Kristy Kistler, and Hannah Young; great-grandchildren, Kennedy Rutherford, Ragan Rutherford and Madison McAllister; sisters-in-law, Lynda Scarborough and Geneva Scarborough of Tifton, Barbara Pope of Enigma and Elouise Pope Lewis of Cross City, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
