Obituary

Norridgewock – Forest “Pete” Arnold Osgood, of Norridgewock, passed away on October 19, 2020 with his wife, Elizabeth and daughter Dawn by his side. He was born in Springfield, ME on February 22, 1936. The only son of Clifford Arnold and Voigt Lyons Osgood, lived in Carroll, ME on a farm.
A graduate of Lee Academy in 1954 in Lee, ME. He attended Husson College in Bangor, ME studying Business Administration. He completed a correspondence course in Diesel Mechanics. He served in the US Navy from 1955-1959. While in the Navy he attended Machinist Mate School in Great Lakes, IL and Air Conditioning and Refrigeration School in Norfolk, VA. He served on the Cassin Young where he spent his time in the engine room. His duties included operation and maintenance of the power plant. He was honorably discharged as MMII. He received a BS in Elementary and Junior High Education in 1964 from Washington State Teacher’s College, where he met his wife Elizabeth. They married in 1963 while still in college. He taught 6th grade at the Ella Burr School in Lincoln, ME from 1964-1967. Grade 6 at Margaret Chase Smith School in Skowhegan, ME from 1967-68. He was the principal and 6th grade teacher at Smithfield Elementary in Smithfield, ME from 1968-1980. He received his Masters of Education Administration in 1972 and a Certificate of Advanced Study in the Superintendency in 1975. He was principal at the Indian Township School from 1980-1983. He worked on the new mill in Madison in 1983. Forest began working at the Androscoggin Mill in Jay, ME in Sept of 1987. While there he worked on all 5 paper machines and in the PS &D areas. In addition to his duties as a Millwright, he also assisted in training employees. He trained others on the use of Fork Trucks, Clamp Truck and Hiltigun training for Simons & Skyjacket lifts, as well as miscellaneous training for his specific department. He also played a lead role on various committees, in 1983 he was Chairman of the Fiber Loss Team and also on the Steering Committee of the Human Elements of Safety (HES) team for 4 years. He was also in a commercial for IP in which he talked about what it was like working at the mill. He retired in 2001. Pete and his wife vacationed in Florida, California, The Bahamas and the coast of Maine, specifically Bar Harbor and Boothbay Harbor. He enjoyed attending the Basketball, Soccer and Softball games of his 4 grandchildren both at home and away.
Forest was predeceased by his parents, Clifford and Voigt Osgood and his oldest sister Norma Jean Osgood McAfee. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Field) Osgood of 57 years; his children; Andrew Osgood of Scarborough; John Osgood of Orlando, FL; Thomas Osgood & his girlfriend Debbie Benson of Greene; Dawn Marie Osgood Boudreau & her husband Gary of Benton. His sisters; Anita Osgood Duerr of Carroll Plt; Janis Osgood Hewes & her husband Arthur of Carroll Plt, brother-in-law Richard Field & his wife Judy of Glen Rock, NJ. Grandchildren: Shelby Osgood of Biddeford; Spencer Osgood & his wife Brooke of Davenport, FL; Morgan & Gage Boudreau of Benton; Margaret Benson Pinkham & her husband Matthew of Bangor & Anthony Benson of Greene. Great-Grandchildren; Poppy Rae Osgood of Biddeford & Jaxx Osgood of Davenport, FL. Nieces & Nephews; Randy & Crystal Toby & families of East Winn; Kendall & Lizabeth Toby & families of Alton; Jeremy Hewes of Carroll; Nikki Hewes Shorey & her husband Steven of Carroll; Susan Field Vatawat of Naperville, IL & Robert Field of London, England. Longtime friends of 60 years; Midge & Myrna McConnell of Lincoln; Mark & Louise Keegan of Scarborough; Chum & Teresa Clifford of Brewer; Bill & Sandra Prescott of Machiasport and Paul & Diane Drake of Lincoln. As well as many cousins.
A special thanks to the surgeons and staff at Maine Medical Center in Portland, and a special thanks to the friendly supportive staff at Gosnell Memorial Hospice of Scarborough for giving us that special ceremony at the end. There will be a celebration of life in the Spring due to COVID-19
