Leonora Brainard Gwyer, 94, passed away October 15, 2020 at home following a brief illness. She was in the care of her two sons, John Peter Wilson of North Fort Myers, FL and Thomas G. Wilson of Bethlehem, CT. She was predeceased by her third son, Frederick K. Wilson, his son, Jesse Wilson, and her brother, Dr. Frederick Gwyer, of Niantic, CT.
Born in Orange, NJ, she lived most of her life in Connecticut. She graduated from the University of Bridgeport with a Masters Degree in French and Education and Central Connecticut State University with a Masters Degree in English. She taught French in Thomaston Public Schools (CT) until she retired and returned to North Stonington.
An avid cook, gardener, seamstress, choir member and bridge player, Lee also loved to travel, exploring Europe, Russia and even Antarctica. She volunteered and worked at Mystic Seaport in the planetarium, the L. A. Dutton, and chandlery exhibit. Lee was a long-term member of The Congregational Church of North Stonington. Lee was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She has four grandchildren: Erika Lelievre, husband Charles and great-granddaughter, Lucienne, of Stamford, CT; Thyra Monaghan and great-granddaughter, Bryn, of Newport Center, VT; Emily Wilson Grabo, husband Dan and great-granddaughter, Addilyn, of Norwich, NY; and grandson, David Wilson, of Exton, PA.
Donations may be sent in her name to: North Stonington Fire and Ambulance or to the Hand Bell Choir at The Congregational Church of North Stonington. Services will be held at a yet to be determined date.
