SPRINGFIELD ~ Evdokia “Kiki” (Karasavvas) Boratgis, 86, formerly a longtime resident of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Monday, October 19, 2020. She passed into Eternal Life after a short period of failing health at Manchester Manor Health Care Center in Manchester, CT where she lived for the past six years, sharing a room with her beloved husband, James who passed away in 2018, surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and wonderful caregivers. She was born in Volos, Greece on March 2, 1934, a beloved daughter of the late Anastasios Savvas Karasavvas and Evlambia Konstantinos Theofilaktou. Kiki was raised and educated in Greece. She was an expert seamstress, coat maker and delighted in cooking, especially Greek pastries and holiday meals. Known for her bubbly personality, sparkling smile and love of fashion, Kiki gave to others as much as she could. She actively cared for and visited persons in nursing and convalescent homes and often brought her pastries to share. She always opened her house to friends and family and made sure they were well fed and well loved. Kiki only made the most difficult, time-consuming and delicious pastries and meals and did so with pleasure. Her “old world” recipes live on at her children’s dinner tables. In her younger years, she was very active in local Greek social circles and was a faithful member of Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Springfield. She spent countless hours cooking for the annual Glendi festival and volunteering for many clubs associated with the church. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and soul mate, James C. Boratgis who was Called Home on November 28, 2018. They were married on March 8, 1964 in Athens, Greece and were blessed with over 54 years of happiness together. They moved to the United States that same year and eventually settled on Burton Street in the Forest Park section of Springfield, where they raised two sons. For many years, Kiki worked at the Kinsler Coat Company and Carter Clothing Company, both in Springfield. She leaves her two loving sons, Charles Boratgis of Calabasas, CA and Ernest Boratgis and his wife, Denise Pesce-Boratgis, of South Windsor, CT; her three cherished grandchildren, Evelene Boratgis, Alecia DiPietro and her husband, Marc, and Angela Boratgis; her two dear sisters, Anthoula Andronikos and Zina Karasavvas, both of Greece; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, and extended family members. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her dear brother, Savvas Karasavvas; and her dear brother-in-law, Theodoros Andronikos. Her family will receive friends on Monday, October 26, 2020 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. which will be followed by a prayer service at 1 p.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107. Her burial will follow the service at Oak Grove Cemetery, 426 Bay Street, Springfield, MA 01109. Please note that masks are required at the funeral home and cemetery and social distancing rules are in compliance with State guidelines.
