Mildred Carr (Callahan), age 86, of Weymouth passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2020. Millie was born and raised in Dorchester. She married her beloved husband of 67 years, Harold, in 1953. Millie and Harold settled in Weymouth where they have remained since and have created many fond memories raising their children.
Millie worked for Quincy Telephone Answering Service once her children were older and was a proud political activist during the Vietnam War. She also volunteered her time for the campaigns of George McGovern and Gerry Studds. Millie cherished time spent with family. She handed wisdom to her children and those around her teaching kindness and compassion to all individuals regardless of their differences. Millie will always be remembered for bursting into song whenever the opportunity was presented.
Millie is survived by her husband of 67 years Harold Carr of Weymouth. She is the loving mother of Deborah Carr-Smith and her husband Rob of Nebraska, Doreen Gatie and her husband John of Weymouth, Dawn Curran Foley and her husband Richard of Hull, and Darlene Breau and her husband John of Florida. Grandmother to Yvan, Daniel, Katie, Rachel, Jason, Hayes, Erin, and Ashley, and great grandmother of four. Millie is also the sister of Francis Callahan and the mother-in-law of the late John “Jack” Curran.
Services for Millie will be private for her family. She will be interred at the Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital at www.stjude.com/donate.
