Edward F. McGurn
Korean War Navy Veteran
TEWKSBURY: Edward Francis McGurn, age 88, a resident of Tewksbury for 57 years, passed away in the care of his family on Sunday, October 11, 2020.
He was the beloved husband of 62 years to Shirley A. (Gorski) McGurn.
Born in Lowell on December 28, 1931, he was the first born child of the late Frank McGurn and the late Veronica (Hudoba) McGurn.
Ed was raised in Billerica, attended Billerica schools, and graduated from the Billerica’s former Howe High School in 1949. He played baseball and basketball and loved to dance and enjoyed all types of music.
In 1951, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean War. He was awarded several decorations for his military service including the Navy Occupation Medal (Europe), the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Korean Service Medal with one Star.
Following his honorable discharge from active duty, he attended Bentley College.
Ed was employed by Metal Processing as a Technical Lead Operator until his retirement.
He was a member of the Couples Club, Tewksbury Golden Age Club and Senior Drop-In-Center, where he and his wife enjoyed socializing with friends and travelled together on many trips.
Ed was a communicant and supporter of St. William’s Parish, and a longtime volunteer at the Tewksbury Community Food Pantry.
He was an avid salt and fresh water fisherman and loved following horse racing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Michael S. McGurn and his wife Mary of Medford, Maureen A. Fanning and her husband Patrick of Tewksbury, Stephen E. McGurn of Dracut, Shalagh Peak and her husband James of Monk’s Corner, SC, and Edward F. McGurn, Jr. of Seattle, WA; three grandchildren, Paul McGurn, Leah Fanning, and Katie Peak. Ed was the brother of Shirley Boyce of Traverse City, MI, Mary Carhoun of Lecanto, FL, Gail Dooley of Dracut, Peggy McGurn of Billerica, Franky McGurn of Billerica, and the late Barbara Scholl of Billerica and George McGurn of Beverly. He also leaves numerous extended family and friends.
Family and friends are invited to meet at St. William’s Church at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, October 19 for his Funeral Mass. Church limited to 80 attendees. Masks, face coverings and social distancing at all venues are required for those attending. Interment to follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury. There are No Calling Hours. Kindly Omit Flowers.
