Obituary

“US First Sergeant William H. "Fitz" Fitzgibbons III (RET US ARMY RANGER), a longtime resident of Vermont and formerly of Charlestown entered into eternal life on October 3, 2020. He was 67 years of age.

William "Fitz" Fitzgibbons was born in Boston on December 11, 1952. He is the beloved Husband of 41 years to Suzanne "Tish" (Griffiths) Fitzgibbons and he is the devoted Father of Bridgette A. Fitzgibbons, who he so adored. He was the son of the late William Fitzgibbons Jr. and Lillian (Good) Fitzgibbons and stepson to Jean (Hurley) Fitzgibbons. He is the brother of the late William White of Palm Harbor, FL, Carolyn Scholl of Seymour, CT, Gail Bonavita of Seymour, CT, Debra Tarasuik of Marblehead, MA, the late Robert Fitzgibbons of Charlestown, MA, Gerald Hurley formerly of Wilmington, MA, Jeanine Raza of Northridge, CA and the late David Hurley of Charlestown, MA. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He loved being at home with his family and enjoyed sitting on the porch with his wife Tish and his daughter Bridgette and the dogs.

Most of all he loved being a United States Army Ranger (2nd Ranger BN). He served his country for over 22 years with Honor and Dedication. He was stationed in Korea, Fort Lewis, Washington, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Caserma Ederle, Vicenza, Italy, Bad Tolz, Germany and Fort Richardson, Alaska. He was a Counter Terrorist Instructor, Firearms Instructor who taught close quarter combat and close quarter marksmanship, the Hostage Rescue Team and Drug Interdiction Team. After he retired from the military he moved to Vermont and served with the Burlington Police Department for 4 1/2 years. From 2003 to 2016 he was a civilian contractor and worked in Iraq, Kuwait, Afghanistan, Croatia and Kenya training soldiers. He worked for Department of the Interior and Department of Homeland Security. He loved being a soldier. He was a true patriot and loved God and Country. He was an inspiration to a lot of young soldiers and was admired by his Leaders, Troops & Joint Forces. It has been a blessing to have gone on this journey with him.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend William's visiting hours on Saturday, October 24, 2020 from 9 to 10:30 A.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St, Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass at 11 A.M. in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St., Charlestown. A funeral reception will be held at the Knights of Columbus, Medford St., Charlestown following the Mass.
