Daniel William Callahan, "Danny", age 45, of West Haven, CT formerly of Northford, CT, passed away unexpectedly on September 30, 2020, in South Carolina due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Danny was born on July 30, 1975, in Melrose, MA; he was the cherished only son of William and Catherine (Burke) Callahan. As a toddler, Danny, moved with his family from Massachusetts to Ohio and at the age of 8 they relocated to Northford, CT. Danny was raised and educated in Northford; he was an avid football player and a graduate of the North Branford High School in 1994. Danny went on to further his education at Southern Connecticut State University where he made many friends.
Danny was a "people person" with a heart of gold and an endearing personality. He was a "gentle giant" whose stature could be intimidating but when he flashed his beautiful smile you knew he was a big teddy bear. Danny was passionate and loyal to his family and friends; he was everyone's protector and always had your back. Danny had a great sense of humor and it brought him great joy to make people laugh and smile; he was easy to talk to and fun to be around.
Danny was known to be an avid sports fan; he enjoyed watching the Red Sox but he loved his New England Patriots. Danny looked forward to watching football on the weekends with his family and friends; they had many great times throughout the years. Danny was truly a "great guy" who loved his family and friends unconditionally; he will forever be in the hearts of those he loved.
Danny was the beloved son of William and Catherine (Burke) Callahan of Mystic, CT, dear brother of Shelly Gada and her husband Mike of Baltic, CT and Michelle Callahan of West Haven, CT, he was the Loving Uncle of Emily Callahan, Marcus Gada and Donovan Callahan. Danny is further survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 16, at 10:00am at St. Patrick Church, 32 East Main Street, Mystic. Burial will follow in Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
