Obituary

CHICOPEE – Normand H. “Uncle Butch” Yelle, 77, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, October 8, 2020. He passed into Eternal Life at Mount Saint Vincent Care Center in Holyoke surrounded by all the memories he loved and cherished. He was born in Holyoke on March 31, 1943, a beloved son of the late Edmond A. and Florida (Perreault) Yelle. He was raised in Holyoke, lived in South Hadley for many years and moved to Chicopee in 2000 where he lived the remainder of his life. He served his country in the United States Army and attained the rank of Specialist Fourth Class. He was employed for over 25 years as a Tube Bender at Package Machinery in East Longmeadow. Normand was so skilled in his trade that he later started his own business, the NPD Tube Bending Company, which was located at Cabotville in Chicopee. He was a communicant at the former Immaculate Conception Church in Holyoke. During his leisure time, he enjoyed cheering on UMASS Football and was an avid New England sports fan. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and his friends. He leaves his beloved wife and soul mate, Pauline A. (Desrosiers) Yelle. They were married on May 22, 1965 at the former Immaculate Conception Church in Holyoke and were blessed with over 55 years of happiness together. He also leaves his loving daughter, Doreen M. Bell and her husband, Andrew, and his cherished grandson, Aidan M. Bell, all of Rutland, MA; his dear sister, Lorraine Lapointe and her husband, Normand, of South Hadley; his three dear nieces, Debra Boucher and her husband, Eric, of Westfield, Donna Desmarais and her husband, Donald, of Westfield and Sandra Erhardt and her husband, Robert, of Portage, MI; his dear nephew, Roger Lapointe and his wife, Deborah, of Agawam; and his many dear great nieces, great nephews, extended family members and friends. His family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020), which will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Committal Service with United States Army Military Honors will follow the Mass at 1 p.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001, (please note that masks are required, social distancing must be observed and capacity at the funeral home, church and cemetery chapel are limited due to state regulations).
