Theresa J. (Poirier) Simmons ,95, of New Bedford passed away Saturday October 3, 2020.
Theresa had a love of traveling to new and exciting places with her husband. She always made sure to plan a family party every month and every holiday. She enjoyed playing cards and was an avid reader.
She was a communicant of St. Julie Billiart Church.
Survivors include her husband of 73 years Leonard Simmons of New Bedford. She is also survived by her daughter Jo-Ann of New Bedford, son Paul and wife Anne of Martha’s Vineyard, son Christopher and wife Jessica of Dartmouth and son Leonard “Skip” of Dartmouth. She was survived by 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was survived by her sister Grace Nanopoulos of New Bedford, as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by her sister Azela Laliberty and her oldest granddaughter Kelley Simmons Cordeira.
She was loved and respected by many friends and all whom met her.
Theresa and her husband started Simmons Concrete Foundations in 1957, which is still currently being run by the 2nd and 3rd generation. The first foundation built was the family home where her husband is still residing. Throughout her retirement she enjoyed her 2nd home in Florida and traveling the world.
Her two greatest joys in life were her husband and her CC Manhattan straight up with the rocks on the side.
Her Funeral will be held on Friday, October 23rd at 10 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at St. Julie Billiart Church at 11 AM. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, October 22nd from 4-8 PM.
