Obituary

CHICOPEE – Lawrence M. “Larry” Mainville, 71, of the Willimansett section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, October 8, 2020. He passed into Eternal Life at his home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Holyoke on August 19, 1949, a beloved son of the late Roger A. and Bertha M. (Suchenicz) Mainville. He was raised in Chicopee, graduated from Chicopee Comprehensive High School and was a lifelong resident of the city. He was employed as a toll collector for the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority. He was a member of the Fairview Knights of Columbus Council 4044 in Chicopee. He was a die-hard New York Yankees fan and also enjoyed being outdoors hunting and fishing. He most especially loved his time with his family and friends at Lake George and Cape Cod where “Captain Larry” could be found boating on his Bass Tracker. Larry was extremely proud of his daughters, Lisa and Jennifer, for their dedication in our community as a nurse and a teacher. He was a communicant of the Basilica of Saint Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr in Chicopee. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Sandra A. “Sandy” (Walczak) Mainville. They were married on April 30, 1977 at the Basilica of Saint Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr in Chicopee and were blessed with over 43 years of happiness together. He also leaves his two loving daughters, Jennifer A. Cain and her husband, Brian, and Lisa K. Mainville and her boyfriend, Shawn Kozikowski, all of Chicopee; his cherished granddaughter, Lauryn Cain; his dear brother-in-law, Stanley Walczak and his wife, Candy, of Chicopee; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. Larry will be watching from the Eternal City this December the upcoming birth of his cherished granddaughter. He will also be fondly missed by his beloved “grand-dog”, Chip. His Funeral will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2020 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (Please note that masks are required, social distancing must be observed and funeral home and Church capacity is limited due to state regulations). His Burial will be private at Mater Dolorosa Cemetery in South Hadley. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The funeral home parking lot is located in the rear of the funeral home. His family requests that memorial donations be made in his memory to the Shriners Hospital for Children, (Specify Springfield), 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
