Robert J. “Pops” Manfredi, a resident of Whitman, East Bridgewater and Plymouth, MA died peacefully on 06 October 2020.
He was the former husband of the late Olive Patricia (Smith) Manfredi and the sole child of the late Joseph Manfredi and Florence (Cook) Manfredi. He is survived by the Dick Brophy Family of East Bridgewater.
Following graduation, he enlisted in the US Army during the Korean War, where he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. After being honorably discharged, he began a long and legendary career as a Shop Floor Controller at the Foxboro Company in East Bridgewater and Foxborough until his retirement.
Pops was often referred to as “The Bob Cousy of Whitman” due to his prowess in pick-up basketball games, in which he competed in well into his late 60’s. He was an avid bicycle rider, fight fan and WWII history buff.
In his free time, he would enjoy smoking a pipe of Carter Hall while watching the old Westerns, “Are You Being Served”, or cheering on his beloved New England Patriots and Boston Celtics. One of the highlights of his social calendar was the annual Christmas Eve Supper at the Brophys’ where he enjoyed Shrimp Scampi and Spumoni, after which he would declare “You’ve all done very well...!”
In his final years, he received exceptional care from both the Brockton Visiting Nurse Association and the VA Boston Healthcare System – Brockton and West Roxbury Campuses.
Interment will be private from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Whitman MA.
