Garnett (Rice) Johnson, 62, of Worcester, passed away on Monday, October 5th at Rose Monahan after a long illness. She is survived by her loving husband of 34 years, Scott D. Johnson; two sons, Richard Hakenson III and his wife Carressa; Donald Hakenson and his wife Laurie; four daughters, Lee-Ann Johnson; Mandy (Johnson) Lopez and her husband Yovani; Danille (Johnson) Lorentz and husband Tom, and Mariah Johnson and her partner Abraham; and twelve grandchildren, Olivia, Hanna, Ian, Tristen, Serenity, Douglas, Nathaniel, Ethan, Jacob, Antonio, Camilo and Abraham. She was predeceased by two sisters, Gloria H. (Rice) Fergerson and Donna Rice, both of Worcester and several nieces and nephews.
Garnett was born in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of the late Donald F. and Naomi B. (Harrisson) Rice. She was raised in Worcester, attended the former St. Peter's High School, and went on to Quinsigamond College where she received a certificate in automated accounting. Garnett worked for many years at Memorial Hospital and later was a crossing guard at Tatnuck Magnet School. She belonged to a foster parents' association, and was always surrounded by children. Garnett also loved going to Walt Disney World in Florida - as her 31 trips can attest to. She will be remembered as a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and sister and will be sorely missed by all that were close to her.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
