Alfredo S. Silva, age 86 of Somerset, passed away peacefully on Wednesday September 30, 2020 at home surrounded by his wife, daughters and grandchildren. Born in Fenais da Luz, São Miguel, Açores, Alfredo was the son of the late Vincente Sousa Silva and Maria Isabel (Sousa) Silva. He was the beloved husband of Lidia (Almeida) Silva.
Alfredo worked as a machine operator at Ross Matthews until the factory’s closure and retired from William M. Jette & Sons, Inc. in 2002. For many years, he also worked as a part-time sales assistant at Amazonia Clothing Company in Fall River. Alfredo was a man of family and faith. His proudest moments were spending time with his grandchildren and celebrating their life’s milestones. A devout Catholic, he was a parishioner of St. John of God Church in Somerset, MA. He enjoyed traveling, watching soccer and spending time outdoors in his yard.
In addition to his wife of fifty-eight years, he leaves behind his daughters: Debora Setters (husband Daniel), Carmen Setters (husband Donald); his grandchildren: Kayla, Zachary, and Matthew Setters, all of Somerset, Massachusetts; a brother, Humberto Sousa Silva of Ontario, Canada, and many nieces and nephews. Alfredo was the brother of the late Manuel Silva, Jose Maria Silva and Deodate Silva.
Alfredo’s funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, 1521 No. Main St., Fall River on Saturday, October 10th with a Private viewing for Family Members. A funeral mass to which all are invited will take place at St John of God Church, 1036 Brayton Ave in Somerset at 10:00 A.M. followed by a private interment at St. Patrick Cemetery in Somerset.
