Gloria O. Willette, 88, formerly of Springfield and Chicopee, passed away in East Longmeadow on Wednesday, September 30. Born in Springfield, she was the daughter of Edith (Johnson) Oliver and Percy Oliver. She was predeceased in 2017 by her husband of 61 years, James, and leaves her children Sharon (Michael Walas), Steven, and Michelle (John Thoma), son-in-law John McLaughlin, and grandchildren Daniel McLaughlin (Melody), Griffen Thoma (Sadie Durning), Hanni Thoma (Andrew DiFiore), Darcy Cardel (Yamil Cardel), Brandon Willette, and Jacob Tassinari. Also, great grandsons Alexander McLaughlin and Ramón and Julián Cardel. Gloria was predeceased by her siblings Robert, John, Ernest, Phyllis, Yvonne and Karen. She leaves one sister, Sandra Madamba, and her brothers-in-law Flor (Ben) Madamba and Robert Haff, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was a graduate of Springfield’s Tech High School and a longtime employee of the US Postal Service in Springfield. With Jim, she enjoyed travel, camping, many active winters in Florida, and watching the Red Sox. Her family would like to thank the staff at Redstone in East Longmeadow for the care and kindness she received there over the last 15 months of her life. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2020 from 4:00 - 6:00 PM at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee. A Private burial will be held in the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the RiverMills Center, 5 W Main St., Chicopee, MA 01020.
