Scarborough - Irene Konczal, age 92, passed away peacefully at her home on September 30, 2020, surrounded by loved ones.
She was born in Boston, Massachusetts on August 23, 1928, daughter of the late Walery and Boleslawa (Olszewska) Nowosielski.
After graduating from East Boston High School, Irene attended Burdett College, where she studied business and secretarial skills.
In 1951, Irene married Robert L.Konczal, her husband of 34 years. After living in Massachusetts, they moved to New Hampshire, to Florida, and finally to Maine in 1962, where she lived until her death.
Irene worked for the Portland law firm, Thompson, Willard, McNaboe, and Smith for many years, retiring at age 67. She was active in the Legal Secretaries Association.
Together with her husband, Bob, Irene led the Scarborough Ridge Runners 4-H club and was active in the Beech Ridge Community Club. An avid reader, Irene also volunteered at the Visiting Nurses Association bookstore in Biddeford.
Although she was born in Boston, Irene embraced country life and instilled in her children a love of the land and the natural world. She loved to read, listen to classical music and opera, garden, and pick blueberries on the family farm.
In addition to her parents, Irene is predeceased by her husband, Robert L. Konczal, who passed in 1985, and siblings, Alfred Nowosielski, Lucyna Pare, and Adele Sullivan. She is survived by her children, son - Robert A. Konczal and his wife Tamara of Scarborough; daughter- Martha Konczal and her husband Joseph Lynch of Plainfield, NJ and Scarborough; daughter - Valerie Konczal and her husband Kenneth Wetherington of Durham, NC; nine grandchildren - Thomas, Hannah, Stephen, Monica, Alexander, Teresa, John, Evan, and Mark; and 8 great grandchildren.
Per Irene’s request, there will be no services at this time.
