Jean West, 75, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Wednesday, September 30, 2020, at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 11 Am, Saturday, October 3, 2020, at the Fitzgerald Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Gary Mimbs officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the sanctuary on Saturday.
Ms. West was born September 19, 1945, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, to the late Jack L. West and the late Eunice Mae Smith West Ware. She was a graduate of Fitzgerald High School and attended Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tennessee. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Georgia Southern in Statesboro. Ms. West taught special education at Fitzgerald High School, retiring in 2002. She was a lifelong devoted member of the Church of the Nazarene and was very active in the children and youth ministries. She took in many young people and helped them along their Christian journey. She loved teaching others about Jesus Christ. She enjoyed traveling and shopping and was a caregiver to her mother and brother, as well as several friends.
She is survived by nieces and a nephew: Kathy and Doug Shealey of Fitzgerald, Janice and David Pope of Dublin, Donna and Matt Matthews of Harlem, and Jack West of Crestview, Florida; great-nieces and nephews: Austin Matthews, Meghan Matthews, Dawlton Matthews, Jason & Nellie Shealey, Katelyn & Noah Lamb, Aiden West , Natalie West, Sam West, and Christy & Matt Benson; great-great-nieces and nephews: Sam Benson, Brantley Pia, Jazmine Shealey, Lylah Evans, and Logan Bowen; two sisters-in-law: Dale West of Harlem and Mary West of Crestview, Florida. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Donald L. West.
