Obituary

Jackie Marion Springer, longtime Oak View resident, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2020, in Ojai, California at the age of 88. He was born on November 10, 1931, to Mary and Vernon Springer in Elk City, Kansas. Jackie’s parents moved the family to Oak View in 1947, and he graduated from Ventura High School in 1949.
Jackie married Lanie Jo Kimbrough on May 16th, 1953 in Ventura, CA. They had three sons: James Michael, John Marion, and Joseph Mark. He served in Europe for the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1957. Upon his discharge from the army, Jackie began working for the Bureau of Reclamation on the Ventura River Project, which resulted in the creation of Lake Casitas. When the lake project was completed, he transferred to the Ventura River Municipal Water District, which was later renamed Casitas Municipal Water District, as an Engineer/Draftsman where he retired after more than 35 years of employment.
During his lifetime, he served as a volunteer fire fighter for the Ventura County Fire Department, Oak View Station #23 until the early 70’s, as well as Scoutmaster of Troop 503. At the time of his death, Jackie was an active member of Oak View’s American Legion, Post 686, and the Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Fraternal Society, Lodge 247.
Jackie is survived by his brothers Michael “Joe” of Sacramento, CA, and Jeffrey of Colorado Springs, CO; sisters Crystal Higgins of Phoenix, AZ, and Cindy Fry of Middleton, ID; his three sons James (Kathryn) of Oak View, CA, John (LeAnn) of Evanston, WY, and Joseph of Oak View, CA; 5 grandchildren Stephen (Chelsea) Springer, Katryna “Karynn” (Shane) Ruffner, Kimberly (Thomas) Stanley, Michael “Jaime” Springer, and Caitlin Springer; and 5 great-grandchildren Aiden, Calliope, Jayce, Warren, and Reilly.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Lanie Jo; his parents Mary and Vernon Springer, and his brother Jim.
Visitation will be held at Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 757 E. Main Street, Ventura, California on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at 4:00 pm, followed by the Rosary at 5:00. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Mission San Buenaventura, 211 E. Main Street on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at 10:00 am with Fr. Tom Eluwaut officiating. Graveside service will follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Valentine Road. Jackie will be buried with full military honors.
