BUXTON- Regan Matthew McCleary (Regs), age 19, passed away unexpectedly on September 26, 2020 in Orono, Maine.
He was born in Portland, Maine on December 25, 2000, the son of Matthew and Kendra McCleary.
Regan attended Buxton Center Elementary School, Bonny Eagle Middle School, and Bonny Eagle High School. He graduated in the top ten percent of his class.
After graduating from the Bonny Eagle High School Class of 2019, he went on to attend the School of Engineering at the University of Maine, majoring in mechanical engineering. Regan was the recipient of the UMaine Presidential Award, UMaine Director’s Award, and the Alton S. and Adelaide B. Hamm Scholarship. He was on the Dean’s List for the Fall 2019 and Spring 2020 semesters.
Regan recently was employed for Boiling Spring Landscaping in Dayton. He previously worked at Plato’s Closet in South Portland and McCleary Building in Buxton.
Regan enjoyed hiking, fishing, basketball, soccer, and spending time with friends and family. He attended Good News Club, AWANA, youth group at West Buxton Baptist Church, and worshipped at various churches in the area.
Regan grew up playing soccer for the Bonny Eagle Soccer Club, various premier soccer clubs, and was a four-year member of the Bonny Eagle High School Varsity Boys Soccer team. He was the recipient of the Most Improved Player Award and the 2018 Most Dedicated Player Award. Regan was named to the SMAA All Academic Team in 2018. He continued his love for soccer, playing on intramural teams as a freshman at UMaine.
While he was a member of the Bonny Eagle High School Jazz Band, he won accolades for his saxophone solo performances in the District and State Jazz Band Festival.
Regan is survived by his mother Kendra (Lunn) McCleary; his father Matthew McCleary; a brother Aidan McCleary; and a sister Fiona McCleary; grandparents Thomas and Valerie Lunn of Buxton; grandmother Linda McCleary of Old Orchard Beach; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends who were like brothers to him.
A public visitation will be held from on Saturday from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at the Gorham Sports Center, 215 Narragansett Street in Gorham, ME. Burial will follow at a future date at the South Buxton Cemetery. Online condolences messages can be submitted at www. mainefuneral.com
