Joy Margie Lou "Margie" Wiley Hays passed away peacefully at home, September 23, 2020, with her husband Don by her side, after 74 years of togetherness. Heaven truly gained an angel of Joy and she will be greatly missed.
Margie was born in Monroe County, January 1st, 1929, to the late William Russell and Mamie (Bales) Wiley. She graduated from Bloomington High School class of 1947.
She and Donald (Don) Lewis Hays married on August 12, 1950, and recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. She and Don moved to Crawfordsville, IN before landing permanently in Anderson in 1956.
Margie shined when she walked into a room, poised with perfectly placed red curls and a slightly mischievous smile. She was strong willed and a collegiate woman when such women were scarce—but she loved her family more than anything else and ended her studies to put all her energy into her family. She loved traveling, gardening, and hosting fancy family gatherings where she somehow stayed immaculately pulled together after hours cooking. Her fashion skills shined when she worked as a seamstress at the Vogue in Bloomington and Anderson’s Dorothy Blevins and as the head seamstress for Pearlman’s Fur Company.
Along with her husband, Margie is survived by her sister Nancy Jane Wiley Davis of Indianapolis; son, Russell (Kathy) Hays of Lapel; daughter Erin (Bill) McCarty of Anderson; two granddaughters, Melissa (Justin) Jaynes and Jennifer (James) Kimble; and three great grandsons, Jayden, Jaxson, and Jereth. Margie was preceded in death by her brothers B.J. Marvin Wiley (Merideth) and Robert Gene Wiley both of Bloomington.
Margie will be buried at Clover Hill Cemetery in Harrodsburg. A celebration of life service will be held for close family and friends at a later date. Written condolences are welcome at [email protected].
