Donald H. “Donnie” Young, 72, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Wednesday, September 23, 2020, at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin, Georgia.
Graveside services will be held 4 PM, Saturday, September 26, 2020, at Mystic Cemetery in Mystic, with the Rev. Jeff Parmer officiating. The family will greet friends at the graveside from 2-4 on Saturday afternoon.
Mr. Young was born June 13, 1948, in Ben Hill County, Georgia, to the late Charles Henry & Margaret Mary Cherry Young. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy. He helped in the construction of the Delco Remy battery plant in Fitzgerald and began working in maintenance once the plant opened. He also worked in ergonomics at Delphi. He loved antique cars and day lilies. He enjoyed watching sports and was an avid supporter of Trump 2020.
He is survived by his wife, Amelita M. Young of Fitzgerald; a daughter, Sonia Miles of Valdosta; a son, Donald Hugh Young, Jr. of Fitzgerald; two granddaughters and a grandson: Ali Jordan, Alex Miles, and Landon Young; great-grandchildren: Lani King, Katelyn King, Kameron King, Maggie Jordan, and Mason Jordan; sisters: Shirley Lattermore of Aiken, South Carolina, Charlotte Hart of Fitzgerald, Connie Sue Faciane of Pensacola, Florida, and Jan Krucina of Aiken, South Carolina; and two brothers: J.W. Young of Fitzgerald and Tommy Young of Aiken, South Carolina. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Earl Young, Herman Young, and Therman Young.
