Obituary

Floyd Beard, 98, of Tifton passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 23, 2020, at Tift Regional Medical Center. A private family graveside service will be held for Mr. Beard on Saturday, September 26, 2020, at Eldorado Baptist Church Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest. The Rev. Dr. Wayne Roe will officiate.

Anthony Beard, Romney Rogers, Dwight Rogers, Cam Rogers, Tyler Beard and Zac Payne will serve as pallbearers.

Born in Turner County on September 21, 1922, Mr. Beard was the son of the late William Roscoe Beard and Opal Smith Beard.

Mr. Beard attended Turner and Tift County schools. He attended Eldorado Baptist Church where he met and married his future wife. He served in the United States Army, honorably, during World War II. After World War II, he returned to Tifton and worked at Keenan Auto Parts and at Carmichael Auto Parts as a salesman until his retirement. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tifton, where he taught the 8-year-old boys Sunday school class for many years. Floyd and Jeannette had many wonderful years singing in the choir and teaching Training Union. He loved his church and was willing to help where he was needed, including serving at the Wednesday Night Suppers. He enjoyed many years as a member of the Kiwanis Club of Tifton. After retirement, he enjoyed playing golf, especially when the children and grandchildren would visit.

Mr. Beard was preceded in death by the love of his life, to whom he was married for 69 years, Jeannette Johnson Beard, who passed away on September 5, 2017; three brothers, Harold Beard, Sharon Beard and Carlton Beard; and two sisters-in-law, Willene Culpepper Beard and Helen Walker Beard.

Mr. Beard is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Candace (Romney) Rogers of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; one son and daughter-in-law, Anthony (Karen) Beard of Newnan, Georgia; five grandchildren and their spouses, Dwight (Blaire) Rogers of North Palm Beach, Florida, Cam Rogers, Tyler Beard and Rebekah (Zac) Payne, all of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Hannah Beard of Tallahassee, Florida; three great-grandchildren, Sutton, Quint and Griffin Rogers, all of North Palm Beach, Florida; one sister and brother-in-law, Marie (Billy) Marchant of Tifton; and one sister-in-law, Ruth Beard of Tifton.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the entire staff at Maple Court Assisted Living and Tift Regional Medical Center and their staff, led by Chris Dorman, for their amazing loving care of Mr. Beard until the very end. They would also like to thank the churches and friends for leading devotionals and providing music at Maple Court Assisted Living.
