Robert A. Porter age 76 of Phoenix, Arizona, went to his eternal rest on February 13, 2006 in Phoenix. Born on May 7, 1929 in Salem, MA, he was the son of the late Ernest J. and Marie Anne (Morin) Porter. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served in a MASH unit as a surgical technician with the Army. Following his tour of duty, he returned to Salem and worked in human resources for several organizations in the greater Boston area.
Bob sang in the Ste. Anne Church Choir for many years and volunteered as an usher for the North Shore Music Theater for several years.
Following his retirement in 1995, he moved to Phoenix and continued singing and ushering. Bob made friends wherever he went, enjoyed a road trip to anywhere, gardening and crossword puzzles.
He is survived by his daughter Dianne Porter of Fairbanks, Alaska, an uncle: Emile Morin and his wife Mary of Peabody as well as several cousins. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his son Bruce Porter.
Relatives and friends are invited to a mass to celebrate his life on Saturday, March 11, 2006 at 1:00 pm in Ste. Anne Church, 290 Jefferson Ave., Salem. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix, AZ, or the AIDS Action Committee in memory of his son Bruce.
