Michael F. Ahern Sr., 64, of Mansfield died unexpectedly on Sunday February 26, 2006 at his families homestead in Urlan More, New Market on Fergus in Ireland. He was the beloved husband of Roseleen P. (Alta) Ahern to whom he was wed to on June 18, 1966.
Born in Limerick, Ireland on April 8, 1941 he was a dear son of the late Michael and Bridget (Aherne) Ahern.
He was educated in Ireland and while living in Ireland worked on his families farm. In 1962 he came to The United States. In 1964 his future wife Roseleen came to join him in America. In 1966 they returned to Ireland to be married. After there marriage the couple returned to the United States and settled in Dorchester. They lived in Dorchester until they moved to Mansfield in 1973.
Mr. Ahern was a retired Union Carpenter. He worked for Local Union 33 in Boston until his retirement in 1997 at age 55. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield. He truly enjoyed working with his hands and would always find the time to help his friends and neighbors with building projects. He frequently visited his families homestead in his native Ireland. His family’s fondest memories are the times they spent together and how much pleasure he received playing with his granddaughters.
Besides his beloved wife Roseleen, he is survived by his devoted children Michael F. Ahern of Mansfield, Stephen A. Ahern and his wife Kathy of North Attleboro and Laura A. Ahern-Chartier and her husband John of Attleboro. His dear brothers Edward Ahern of Braintree, Oliver Ahern of Norwell and the late Patrick Ahern. Also survived by his cherished granddaughters Meghan and Ashley Ahern and his many nieces, nephews and friends.
His funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Saturday March 4th at 10 A.M. from The Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield followed by a mass of Christian burial celebrated at 11:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church 330 Pratt St.(Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday March 3rd from 5-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
