Walter R. Stopa
1946 – 2020
Walter R. Stopa, age 74, passed away peacefully on Sept. 8, 2020 at Baystate Medical Center. He was born on Feb. 3, 1946 in Westfield. Walter attended UMass, Amherst and was drafted into the US Army during the Vietnam War. He proudly served his country as a Sgt and became a recipient of the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. He later worked as a Clerk for the US Postal Service for many years before he retired. He is survived by his mother, Lynn Stopa of Chicopee; 4 children, Lisa and her husband Tom Sebastyn of Southwick, Michael Stopa of Chicopee, Nathan Stopa of Chicopee and Nicholas “Nick” Stopa of Chicopee; a brother, Ronald Stopa of Chicopee; a sister, Carol and her husband Rob Kosiorek of Harwich; and 3 beloved grandchildren, Jack and Scarlett Sebastyn and Michael Stopa. He is predeceased by his father Walter S. Stopa and a brother, Thomas Stopa. A Service will be held on Wednesday, September 16th, 2020 at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Agawam. The Grise Funeral Home is entrusted with services.
