Elena (Galluccio) Cioffi of Somerville passed away on Thursday, September 3, at the Melrose/Wakefield Hospital. Born and raised in Atripalda, Avellino, Italy she was the daughter of the late Nicola and Anna (Rotondi) Galluccio. Elena and her family came to the U.S. in 1971 and settled in Somerville. She lived for a brief time in Medford before returning to Somerville where she spent the rest of her life. Elena loved to cook. She also loved perfume and going shopping, but most of all she loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren: "WE LOVE YOU MOM"
Elena was the beloved wife of 67 years to Mario Cioffi, and the devoted mother of Maria Rosaria and her husband Antonio Esposito of Italy, Giovanna Guarino and her husband Raffaele of Medford, Carmela Pisano and her husband Franco of Lynnfield, and Valeria DeSorbo of Somerville. She was the loving grandmother of Francesca Esposito and husband Salvatore, Massimo Guarino and wife Stacy, Caterina Rinehart and husband Steven, Erica and Gianfranco Pisano, AnnaMaria Guevara and husband Adrian, and the late Andrea DeSorbo. She was also the loving great grandmother of Alessia and Aurora Magrelli, and Vincenzo, Dante, and Lia Guarino. Elena was predeceased by her brothers and sisters, and is survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours have been respectfully omitted. A funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High St., Medford, on Wednesday, September 9th at 11:30 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Services will conclude with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in Elena's name to the American Diabetes Association, 260 Cochituate Rd., Suite 200, Framingham, MA 01701.
