CHICOPEE – Doris B. (Bernier) Brodeur, 93, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, September 3, 2020. She passed into Eternal Life at Chicopee Rehabilitation and Nursing Center surrounded by all the memories that she loved and cherished. She was born in Chicopee on January 19, 1927, the beloved daughter of the late Ovide and Alexina (Bergeron) Bernier. She was raised in Chicopee, graduated schools in Chicopee and in Canada, and had lived in South Hadley and Holyoke before returning to Chicopee. She was employed as an Admissions Clerk at American International College in Springfield for many years. She also worked at the Chicopee Senior Center. She was a communicant and Ladies of Saint Anne Sodality member for over 50 years of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. During her leisure time, she enjoyed cooking, gardening, knitting, sewing and trying her luck at bingo games at Sainte Rose de Lima Church and the Castle of Knights, both in Chicopee. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and her many friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Joseph J. Brodeur who was Called Home on September 4, 2014. They were married on November 6, 1948 at Saint Theresa of Lisieux Church in South Hadley and were blessed with over 65 years of happiness together. She leaves her three loving children, David O. Brodeur and his wife, Lisa, of Chicopee, Thomas A. Brodeur and his wife, Sharon, of Rockland and Anne Marie Whelihan of Chicopee; her nine cherished grandchildren, Reesha Brodeur Waldron and her husband, Lonnie Waldron, Sarah King and her husband, David, Brandon Hunter and his fiancée, Karyn Brower, Frank Hunter, Nicole Brodeur and her husband, Alex Payne, Andrew Brodeur and his wife, Jessica, Rachel Brodeur and Nathaniel and Brittany Whelihan; her four cherished great-grandchildren, Amira Waldron, Parker and Kensington King and Elias Hunter; her dear sister-in-law, Peggy Brodeur of New Jersey; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her loving son-in-law, James Whelihan who was Called Home on February 18, 2020. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (the funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (please note that masks are required, social distancing must be observed and funeral home and Church capacity is limited due to state regulations). Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
