Carl was born March 26, 1973, in Albany, Georgia to the late Dave & Dorothy “Dot” Hodges O’Scott. His pre-teen years were interrupted with the discovery of a brain tumor at age 12. He underwent surgery in Albany to remove the tumor. He had a subsequent surgery at Shands in Gainesville, Florida a few years later. He was a 1991 Honor Graduate of Fitzgerald High School, where he served as Drum Major. He attended Andrew College before being sidelined again by his health condition. In 1992, Dr. Ben Carson successfully operated on Carl at Johns Hopkins University. The O’Scott family maintained a relationship with Dr. Carson throughout Carl’s life. He also attended South Georgia College and Wiregrass Georgia Technical College. He worked at Food Lion and drove Gene Mason’s ICEE truck while in high school. He worked with his Dad at WBHB and well as the Jessamine Place. Carl will be remembered for his perseverance through many medical issues and his deep devotion as an Auburn Tiger fan…WAR EAGLE!! He loved watching his nephew, Ethan, play football, wrestle, and more recently play baseball. He was certainly Ethan’s biggest cheerleader and fan. Carl was a member of Central United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his sister, Amy & Billy Shiver of Ben Hill County; two nephews: Ethan Shiver and Mitch & Mallory Shiver; a niece, Emily Shiver; a great-niece, Lili and two great-nephews: Knox and River; an aunt, Durelle Patterson of Aurora, Colorado; and a caregiver, Franklin Parrish.
