Obituary

John E. Malatras, 82, of Manchester, NH died February 28, 2006 at a local healthcare facility after a brief illness surrounded by his family.

He was born in Manchester on July 17, 1923, the son of Emanuel and Theopoula (Paparisi) Malatras. He was educated in the local school system and was a graduate of Manchester High School Central. During WWII, he served in the US Army as a Medical Technician in the Asiatic Pacific Theater.

Prior to retirement, he had been employed by the State of New Hampshire as the State Supervisor of Pari-Mutuel Racing. He had been former commander of the Veterans of Foreign War, served on the Board of Directors of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, and also served in the NH State Legislature. He enjoyed traveling and loved spending time with his grandchildren who affectionately called him “Papou”.

Members of his family include his wife of 58 years, Stamatia (Kotekas) Malatras of Manchester; two daughters, Betty and her husband George Kitsis of Manchester, and Elaine Nader of Garden City, NY; one son, Manny Malatras and his wife Kathy of Manchester; seven grandchildren, Katrina Kitsis, Christopher Malatras, Cara Malatras, Martina Nader, William Nader, John Kitsis, and Evan Nader; one brother, Socrates Malatras of NJ; nephews and nieces; He was predeceased by a brother, Nicholas Malatras.

The funeral service was held in St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral on Monday March 6, 2006. Burial with full military honors followed in Pine Grove Cemetery.
