Obituary

Alvin Charles “Al” Powell, 67, of Ty Ty passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 29, 2020. He was born in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania on September 20, 1952 and had lived in Georgia for the last several years and was a retired security guard.

Al was preceded in death by his parents, Catherine Lillian Fuller and Edward Powell, Sr., as well as a brother, David George Powell. He served in the Army from 1972 to 1974 and was stationed in Korea before his honorable discharge. He was cited with the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and a Rifle Medal.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Diane Powell; one son, Robert Charles Powell; one step-son, Brent Michaels; two brothers, Edward Powell (Cathy) and Joseph Powell (Cindy); three sisters, Cathy Tripp (Mike), Christine Kelley (Terry) and Diane Singletary (William); grandchildren, Stephanie, Justin, Sarah, Olivia and Hope; four step-brothers, Ronnie Edmondson, Rusty Edmondson, Herbie Edmondson and Doug Edmondson; one half-brother, Ed Edmondson; as well as several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his faithful canine companion, Tater.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2020, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Family members will give eulogies. Mr. Powell will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
