LOWELL – George Joseph Newell, age 50, a carpenter by trade, died peacefully Monday, August 24, at Lowell General, Saints Campus.
He was born in Lowell a son of the late John and Judith Ann (Gath) Newell, and lived in Greater Lowell his entire life. In his younger years, he was active in Lowell’s youth baseball leagues, and throughout his life he enjoyed watching Boston’s professional sports. His love of sports led him to become a serious collector of sports memorabilia. In his more recent years, he enjoyed table pool, fishing, a love for the “out doors” and was fondly described as being funny and kind.
He leaves a son, George J. Newell Jr. of Hudson, NH; his sisters and a brother, Judith A. Newell of Chelmsford, Mabel E. “Mae” Bond of Lowell, John J. Newell of Lowell, and Tracy A. Newell of Lowell; along with many nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins.
