Winifred A. "Winnie" (Burke) Doherty, a 5 year resident of Reading and formerly of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at the North Shore Medical Center in Salem. She was 81 years of age.
Winnie was born in Boston on October 30, 1938, a daughter of the late James Burke and Winifred (Quirk) Burke. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1956. She worked as an Assistant to the Dean of Admission at Northeastern University Law School for 20 years and at Bunker Hill Community College for 10 years in the same capacity. Winnie will be fondly remembered for her dedication to her family and her feisty spirit.
Winnie is the beloved wife of 62 years to retired Boston Firefighter Francis J. "Franny" Doherty. She is the devoted mother of Daniel F. Doherty and his spouse Laurie(Moore) Doherty, Donna M. Doherty and her spouse Maureen Haley, and Denise M. Warren. She is the loving Nana to Kelsey Ann Burke Johnson, Francis D. Warren and Casey S. Warren. She is the beloved sister of the late William Burke , James "Joe" Burke, Michael Burke, Mary Powers, Dennis "Frank" Burke, Edward Burke , Christine Lyons, Helen Hirl, and John Burke. She is also survived by her many loving nieces, nephews and a multitude of great-nieces and great-nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Winnie's Funeral on Monday morning August 31, 2020 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. Her burial will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. Her visiting hours will be on Sunday, August 30, 2020 from 2 to 5 P.M. in the funeral home.
