WORCESTER-Vasilios “Bill” Economou, 83, of 11 Chestnut Hill Lane died Tuesday, February 28th in the Jewish Healthcare Center after a long battle with cancer. He leaves his wife of 54 years, Evrydiki (Garoulis) Economou, his son, Dino Economou of Sturbridge, a daughter, Elly Athanasiou of Worcester, a brother, Polizios “Paul” Economou of Worcester, and 4 grandchildren, Maria, Vasilios “Bill” and Eleni Athanasiou and Christopher Economou and several nephews and nieces.
He was born in Douviani, Northern Epirus, Greece the son of Constantine and Olga (Panagiotou) Economou and came to Worcester in 1946. Mr. Economou owned and operated the Vasil Beauty Salon in Milford for many years, and co-owned and operated the Howard Johnson Restaurant in West Boylston. He was an active member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral and had served as past president of its Parish Council, the Order of A.H.E.P.A., the Epirotic Society of Worcester, the Pan Epirotic Society, the Douviani Society of St. George. Mr. Economou had served in the Greek Army during World War II.
The funeral is Friday, March 3rd from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a service at 11:00 AM in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday, March 2nd from 5:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home.
