Veronica C. (McLaughlin) Smith, a 50 year resident of Weymouth and formerly of Hyde Park and Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Monday, August 24, 2020 at her home in Weymouth. She was 90 years old.
Veronica was born in Boston on November 5, 1929, a daughter of the late James McLaughlin and Catherine (McLaughlin) McLaughlin. She grew up in Charlestown where she attended St. Mary's Parochial School and graduated from Charlestown High School. Veronica worked as an Executive Secretary at the State House for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. She loved her grandkids and swimming and was an everyday patron of Bob's Muffin Shop in Weymouth.
Veronica is the beloved wife of the late retired Boston Police Detective Dean R. "Bunko" Smith. She is the devoted mother of Dorothy Smith. She is the loving Grandma of Martin, Maura, Dorothy and her fiancé Robert Sullivan, Erin, Maggie, Christopher, and her great-grandchildren Lyla Fuller and Cayden Sullivan. She is the beloved sister of Elizabeth Bell, Pauline McLaughlin, and the late Mary Hurley, Marjorie Coleman, Catherine McLaughlin, Virginia Powers, Rita Biggins, Rose O'Leary, Vincent McLaughlin, Thomas McLaughlin, William McLaughlin, Robert McLaughlin, James McLaughlin, Cornelius McLaughlin, and Michael McLaughlin. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives & friends are invited to attend Veronica's Funeral on Friday, August 28, 2020 at 10 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 11 A.M. Her burial will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. Her visiting hours will be on Thursday, August 27, 2020 from 3 to 7 P.M. in the funeral home.
