Carlos R. DeCastro, age 70, of Taunton, passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2020 at the Faulkner Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston. He was the beloved husband of Maria A. (Pereira) DeCastro, to whom he was wed for forty-two years.
Born in Madeira Island, Portugal on July 2, 1950, he was a loving son of the late David A. DeCastro and Albertina Amaral.
Carlos grew up and was educated in Portugal. In 1997, he moved to the United States, settled in Taunton and in 2012, proudly became a U.S. Citizen.
Prior to retiring, Mr. DeCastro had worked for several years as a Machine Operator at IBC Corporation in Easton. He was a communicant of saint Anthony’s Church in Taunton, a member of Grupo Amigos da Terceira in Pawtucket and also a member of the Portuguese Folklore.
Carlos loved spending time with his adoring family. He had a lifelong love for singing and music and in his retirement years, built acoustic and Portuguese guitars.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his devoted children: Raquel DeCastro Borges and her husband Larry Borges of Taunton and Marco DeCastro of Taunton. He was the cherished grandfather of Brianna DeCastro Borges. He was the dear brother of Lucia Castro of East Providence, Tina Bolieiro and her husband Joe of Taunton and is also survived by his loving nieces and nephews.
His funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Thursday, August 27th at 11:00 in Saint Anthony’s Church, School St., Taunton. Burial will follow at Saint Joseph’s Cemetery in Taunton.
Visiting hours will be held prior to the funeral Mass on Thursday morning from 8:30-10:30 A.M. at the Taunton Memorial Funeral Home, 8 Crapo St. (Off Route 140, Tremont St.) Taunton.
