Thomas “Tom” Perry, age 49, passed away peacefully in his home on August 21, 2020 in Quincy, MA.
Tom was born in Washington, DC to Deborah Palmer and Thomas W. Perry. Tom spent his early years in Dorchester, MA and his summers with his grandparents in rural Maryland. Tom was a graduate of Stoughton High School and then headed to Los Angeles to begin his career as a special effects artist. After many years, he returned to the east coast and turned his ambitions to his true passion for screenwriting which continued until his death.
Tom was a gifted writer, artist, sculptor, poet, special effects artist and screenwriter. The 70s was his decade, autumn his season, Halloween his holiday, and rural Maryland his hometown. Tom was smart, and funny, and moved through this world at his own pace. He was his own kind of cool, dressed in a plain tee and a button down, sporting heavy boots and his green army jacket.
Tom loved a good story, well told, and had plenty of his own to share. He favored ghost stories, horror movies, westerns, Creature Double Feature and Alice Cooper records. A collector of things, Tom was always on the lookout for the big find.
He was an old soul with a rare, kind heart, and he deeply loved his family and friends. His circle was small, but it was wholeheartedly cared for. What he had he gave to whomever needed it, be it his time, his attention, his lucky lottery winnings or his ready ear for hours on end over the phone. His full belly laugh was pure gold.
Tom was preceded in death by his father, Thomas W. Perry, of Ranson, WV. He is survived by his mother, Deborah Palmer, and step-father, William, of Bingham, ME, his brother Eric Palmer, and wife, Stephanie, of Franklin, MA, his sisters, Natalie Palmer, of Quincy, MA and Jessica Henriquez, and husband Manuel, of Leesburg, VA. Additionally, Tom leaves behind several loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins on both sides of his family.
When it is safe to do so, Tom’s family will host a memorial service in his honor. In the meantime, please share your favorite story or memory of Tom with one another as he would have wanted. In lieu of flowers, Tom’s family would ask that you perform a random act of kindness in his memory.
The Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. is honored to assist the Perry/Palmer Familes.
