Joseph C. "Joe" Kane, a longtime resident of Charlestown and a former 30 year resident of Billerica, entered into eternal life on Friday, August 21, 2020 at his son's home in Salem, New Hampshire. He was 86 years of age.
Joe was born in Boston on August 4, 1934, a son of the late Joseph Kane and Theresa G. (Harrigan) Kane. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1951. Joe enlisted into the United States Air Force on September 24, 1951 and served his country with honor and courage during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on August 31, 1959 with the rank of Airman Second Class. Joe worked as a Truck Driver and was a member of the Teamsters Union Local # 25 for over 40 years. He is also a member of the Beachmont V.F.W. Post. In his spare time, Joe enjoyed visiting Suffolk Downs, purchasing a new vehicle for himself and whenever the occasion arose, he took great enjoyment teasing a vulnerable victim.
Joe is the beloved husband of 32 years to Patricia "Pat" (Hughes) Kane and the late Shirley (McDonald) Kane. He is the devoted father of Joseph Kane and his wife Jackie, Sandra Rogers, Cheryl Carroll and her husband John, Rick Hughes and his wife Carole, Joe Hughes and Eileen Hughes and her husband Billy Marsden. He is the loving Papa to his 7 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He is the beloved brother of Theresa Daly, Marjorie McDonald and the late Edward Kane, Robert Kane and his surviving wife Margaret, Betty Searcy, Mary Bowman and William Kane and his surviving wife Linda. He is also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Joe's Funeral on Wednesday morning August 26, 2020 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. His burial will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. His visiting hours will be on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 from 3 to 7 P.M. in the funeral home.
