Obituary

It was the 13th of May 1928 when Nancy Mary or Mary Nancy Healy entered this world and began her life in the family’s classic brownstone structure at 425 E. North Avenue. Located in northern Baltimore City, North Ave. was one of the busiest thoroughfares in the city. It provided a robust environment for any child to experience. She attended St. Anne’s grammar school like family members before and after her. Her love of flowers came from her numerous visits to her cousin’s home in the Bronx. She spent many hours at the Botanical Gardens there, identifying flowers of all kinds. Through trickery (chewing gum during interview) she managed to avoid attending the Institute of Notre Dame instead attending her preferred Seton High School. Those high school years were like those that few of us could know. At that time the world was engaged in a tumultuous global war. As her life moved on she met a seafaring man much like members of her own family. His name was John Rauscher who hailed from northern Wisconsin. After the war they began a life together and raising a family. A son and daughter, John and Regina, were the newest members of her family. After a few years residence in Wisconsin they returned to Maryland. In what was considered an early 50’s novel experience they moved to the suburbs at the very end of the Number 3 bus line. During this period Nancy worked full time at the Waverly Press as a Medical Journal proof reader. She was a life-long learner while raising 2 children and 2 grandchildren. Eventually retiring from Waverly she joined her husband John in what many referred to as the golden years and enjoying her 4 great-grandsons. They made numerous trips to Florida and elsewhere meeting family members from John’s side of the family as well as childhood friends of Nancy’s from her North Avenue neighborhood. In October of 2019, with failing health after a bout with pneumonia, Nancy had to leave her beloved Dunwoody Road residence.

Nancy (Nanny) passed away Saturday evening at Brightview Assisted Living. She is the beloved wife of the late John J. Rauscher, Jr., Devoted mother to Mary Regina ”Jeannie” Rauscher and John J. Rauscher, loving grandmother to Stephanie K. Rauscher-Finn and John R. Lumpkin, great-grandmother to Joshua & Tyler Lumpkin, R.M. “Trey” Finn, III & John Michael Finn. Also survived by her brother Francis "Mike" Healy and Mildred Healy Nolan.

Family and friends may call at the Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 19th from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Interment will be Private.
