WAHIAWA, HI—Raymond L. Mann, 81 years old, a WW II and Vietnam Navy and Air Force Veteran and former resident of Lowell, died Wednesday, February 22nd, at the Wahiawa General Hospital, in Wahiawa, Hawaii. He was the husband of Margaret L. ‘Peggy’ (Sawers) (Myers) Mann and the late Dorothy E. (Gentle) Mann, who died in 1995.
He was born in Lowell, January 12, 1925, a son of the late Arthur and Fidelia (Gelinas) Mann, and was a graduate of Lowell High School.
Mr. Mann joined the US Navy and served as a top gunner and Aviation Machinist Mate in the South Pacific during World War 2. Following his Naval discharge he moved back to New England. Recalled to the military he joined the US Air Force, and retired from the USAF in 1972, moving back to Lowell, MA. He was employed by Display Components, Inc. of Littleton-Westford, and retired fully in 1985. After the death of his wife Dorothy, he attended Lowell First Church of the Nazarene where he met Margaret Myers, and remarried in 1999. He and Peggy moved to Hawaii where he lived until his Promotion to Glory at Wahiawa General Hospital.
Surviving him besides his wife are a son and daughter-in-law: Rev. Raymond and Rev. Deborah (Dries) Mann, Jr. of Milton, VT; a daughter and son-in-law: Sarah and Patrick Connelly, of Kenduskeag, ME; seven grandchildren; Megan and Michael Mann, Keith and Danielle Sargent, Caitlin, Scott and Zachary Connelly; two sisters and a brother-in-law: Ethel Fazel of Merrimack, NH; Alice and Clarence Biggar of Mililani, HI; two sisters-in-law: Bessie Llewellen, of Chelmsford; and Ellen Robey, of Lowell; also many nieces and nephews.
Ray was a beloved father, husband, friend and brother in Christ. We will miss him, but celebrate his life and rejoice in his Life Eternal.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Memorial Service on Saturday, March 4th, at 11 AM in the Chapel of the Salvation Army, 150 Appleton Street, Lowell, followed by a reception at the church. Burial in the Westlawn Cemetery, Lowell. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be sent to Wahiawa Church of the Nazarene; 1805 California Ave., Wahiawa, HI 96786; C/O Mann Memorial Fund.
