Obituary

Charles Francis Dolan of Fairhaven entered into Eternal Rest on Thursday August 13, 2020 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Patricia Harrington Dolan with whom he had shared forty-one years of marriage. He is survived by his son Patrick J. Dolan and wife Allyson of Fairhaven, and the greatest joy of his life, his beloved grandson John Patrick Dolan, He was proud to be the son of the late Boston Fire Department Chief Joseph L. Dolan and his wife Marie (Schneider) Dolan and the beloved son-in-law of the late Atty. Edward J. Harrington, Jr., and a loyal companion, caretaker and golf partner of Edward's brother, the late Monsignor Thomas J. Harrington. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Charles was a graduate of Cohasset High School, Quincy Police Academy, Western New England College and pursued graduate studies at Anna Maria College. He was a proud U.S. Navy veteran.

Upon his return from military service, Charles began a distinguished 32 year career in law enforcement and retired from the Massachusetts State Police in 2001. Prior to the merger of the Commonwealth's police departments, Charles was a Metropolitan District Commission police officer. He had also served as an officer in the Cohasset Police Department.

Charlie loved the sea and his many sea-going vessels and cherished golfing adventures with family and friends. Memorial contributions in his honor may be made to Tunnels to Towers Foundation (tunnels2towers.org) which honors the service and sacrifice of police officers and firefighters.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday August 18, 2020 at 10 AM in St. Anthony's Church, Mattapoisett. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, New Bedford. Visiting hours will be on Monday August 17, 2020 from 3-7 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd., Route 6, Mattapoisett.
