WAYLAND: John M. Kilgallen, 73, died peacefully at his summer home in Bristol, NH after a period of declining health.
He was born in Boston and grew up in Hyde Park, the son of John E. R. and Frances (Lawler) Kilgallen. John graduated from Cathedral High School in Boston and attended Northeastern University before moving to southern California. He returned to Framingham and began working his way up the ladder of Howard Johnson’s which later became a part of Marlborough Realty. He retired as Director of Operations.
In 1977, he married Mary (Plunkett) and they settled in Wayland. In 1981 their first son Michael was born and a year later their second son Brian arrived. In 1985 John and Mary purchased a shell of a house near Newfound Lake and John began to finish off the summer home that would become “his happy place”.
A true New Englander, John was an avid Bruins and Patriots fan. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. A dog lover at heart, he would always go out of his way to pet any dog he saw. He was proud to have won the Bristol Old Home Day horseshoe tournament and also the Invitational Pitch Tournament several times.
Family includes his wife Mary of Wayland; sons and daughters-in-law Michael and Tara of Framingham; Brian and Dianna of Cumberland, ME; grandsons Shaun, James, Desmond, Liam, and Aiden. He was predeceased by brothers Walter and Donald Kilgallen and sister Jane Richardson. He was the beloved Uncle Johnny to many nieces and nephews. He treasured his many deep friendships.
A memorial wake will be held Sunday, August 16, 2020 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Rd (off Rte 30), Wayland. All in attendance will be required to wear a mask or face covering and social distancing will be observed.
A memorial Mass will be Celebrated on Monday, August 17, 2020 at 10:30 am at St. Anselm Church, 10 Landham Rd, Sudbury.
In lieu of flowers, John’s greatest wish would be that you would cast your vote against the current President in the November Elections.
