Maria (Kanes) Mandonas, a long-time Medford resident, died Saturday at the Winchester Hospital, after a long illness. She was 77.
Born and raised in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Vaselos and Anna (Sparagoulis) Kanes. After high school and college, Maria worked at Waltham Hospital as a medical technician. Once married she turned her attention to raising her children.
She was the beloved wife of Nicholas J. Mandonas. She was a devoted mother to Marianne Gigliotti and her husband Robert of Sudbury, and the late James Mandonas. She was a dear mother-in-law of Myra Cicalis and her husband Charles of Sudbury. She was a loving grandmother to Nicholas, Christopher, Olivia, Casandra, Adam, Aaron and Andrew. She was sister of Era Kanes of Medford, Demetra Sinunu of NJ and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Wednesday at 10 AM followed by a funeral service in Dormition Of The Virgin Mary, Greek Orthodox Church, 29 Central Street, Somerville at 11 AM, with the Very Reverend Father Vasilios, presiding. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, Tuesday 5 - 8. Services will conclude with burial at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge.
