SACO- Betty E. Nix, age 80, of Saco, longtime CNA, passed away on July 27, 2020.
Betty loved to tell stories. She would spend hours driving around with her daughters Bonnie and Becky through different towns she had lived in telling stories throughout the ride of her youth and teenage years in Maine . Betty moved to Mississippi where she married and had four children, Ronnie, Carl Ray, Becky and Bonnie. She really enjoyed living on a farm. She worked hard growing food in the gardens for her family and spent many hot summer days canning what she had grown. She was never one to shy away from doing what she needed to help take care of her family,. Betty worked many jobs but her most rewarding job was a teachers aide to young children in Mississippi, she felt that she really made a difference in the children’s day and she couldn’t have been more proud. She loved being a mom and she was always quick to offer a hug and kiss. Betty learned to sew and would sew dresses for her daughters and shirts for her husband and sons. Betty was very artistic and enjoyed many artistic endeavors such as making purses for girls in the local high school and painting images on her husbands welding hoods. She was happiest when providing loving gestures to her family and friends. We see Betty’s belief and spirituality reflected in her children. She taught them to believe in the Lord and have faith. That faith was tested when her youngest son Carl Ray went to the Lord at a young age. Betty never wavered in her faith and that belief helped her and her family heal. Soon after, she moved back to Maine and reconnected with her mom Arlene and brothers Bob, Chuck and Billy. Betty was very happy to then become an aunt to Betty Gene and Tanya. She always loved being involved and helping her family when they needed her. When Betty became a grandmother or as the grandchildren called her Nonnie , it was a role she truly loved and embraced fully. She was so proud to be a Nonnie to David, Justin, Amy , Daniel, Corey, Casey and Dustin. When the grandchildren were younger, Betty would take them fishing. She loved to be outside and she really loved to go fishing. She usually ended up in the water with wet sneakers and lots of laughter as she tried to land a fish. Betty’s latest loves were her great grandchildren. She was thrilled to be a great-Nonnie to Ethan, Jack, Hunter and Wynter. She was most happy when her son Ronnie was in Maine to visit and she had all her children in one place. All throughout her life Betty was a caregiver to her family, to her patients and anyone who needed a helping hand. She was very loved. She will be greatly missed.
